Q> Can I record my voice over while recording video?
Q> I recorded a movie, but I have a black blank screen.
A> The reason you have the black screen is because you didn't set up your video option. You have to change the Video option prior to recording.
More importantly, when you're recording through a web browser or Windows Media Player, you must run the web browser or Windows Media Player after the video setting.
These are the general steps for setting up.
Run liteCam > Setup video and audio >run movie player (web browser or any media player) > Record
If you run any media player before you set up the video option, the screen may not record or play properly.
In order to set up, Click the Tools menu > select Video Options
You will see the Video Options dialog box.
You will notice that hardware acceleration is set to Full (unless you have changed it manually). Click the “ Set Hardware acceleration to None ” button.
After recording, open this dialog box again and click the “Restore hardware acceleration to Full” button.
Click the “Okay” button to save and close these changes. Please refer to Kbase LC201 for further help.
Q > I recorded, but I don't hear any sound.
A > If the sound is not recorded, you must configure the sound option.
Audio Wizard Tutorial
These are the general steps for setting up:
Run liteCam > Setup video and audio >run movie player (web browser or any media player) > Record
In order to set up, Click the Tools menu > select Audio Options
You will see the Audio Options dialog box.
From this dialog box, you have to select a device to record the sound coming from your computer, including sounds from movies.
When you click the “Play” button, you will hear a sample sound. Select devices one at a time from the Devices box. When you see waves in the Show Wave box, select the device. Adjust the Volume for the device and click the Okay button to record sound.
Once you set this audio setting, you will not need to reset it ever again. It will be saved as default in liteCam.
When you're using other programs, like Sound Recorder for example, you will need to change the device to microphone from the audio settings in each application.
* Some old sound cards don't support Duplexing, which allows you to record sound from your computer. You may not be able to record sound if you are using one of these sound cards. Please refer to Kbase LC101 for further help.
Q> I have nothing listed in the Devices box in the Audio Option dialog box.
A> This sometimes happens when
- You have more than 2 sound cards on your computer
- You are using a webcam which has an integrated microphone
If you have this webcam error, the simplest way to setup audio is to just unplug your webcam during recording, and plug it back in after recording. However, if you want to record using the webcam or do not wish to unplug the webcam, please follow the steps below.
First, run volume control. If you see Volume Control in your taskbar, double click the icon to open the volume control.
If you don't see the icon in your task bar, click the Start Button > Select Control Panel > Double click the Sound and Audio Devices icon to open the Sound and Audio Devices Properties dialog box > from the Volume tab, which is the default page when you open the dialog box, click the Advanced button in the Device Volume box.
Now you have the Play Control dialog box open. Click the Options menu and select Properties. You will now have the Properties dialog box displayed. Check off the button located next to “Recording” and check off all the devices under “Show the following volume controls” box menu and then click OK.
If you have a webcam or microphone integrated with webcam displayed in the Mixer Device, you have to change it to your sound card.
Generally, the Recorder master will be selected, unless you changed it.
This Record Control will look slightly different depending on your sound card. Keep this Record Control dialog box open, and run the Sound Recorder. Click the Start button > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder.
Now we have both the Record Control dialog and the Sound Recorder open. We have to play music files using any media player. When the music plays, click the Record button from the Sound Recorder.
Now, From the Record Control Dialog, select devices one by one to check if you see waves in Sound Recorder.
For example when you click Recorder Master, you will see waves in the Sound Recorder if the Recorder Master is the device you are using to record sound from your computer.
Devices used to record sound are all different depending on your system, OS and sound card, so you will have to go through this process to manually configure this.
You are ready to use LiteCam now, but don't forget to configure “Video” in LiteCam.
Q> I recorded a custom size recording and Windows frame recording, but can't record movies… my desktop is recorded instead.
A> First of all, make sure that you have configured the video setting. If you did it correctly, you probably didn't select an area to record, after selecting the recording mode. After you choose from 3 recording modes on the left side of liteCam, you have to click the Select button from the Video Setting box.
Q> I'm watching a movie from the web using Windows Media Player. Can I record this movie?
A> Yes, but please configure the Video/Audio first, if you haven't done so already. Play the movie using Windows Media Player.
If the movie starts to play, click the pause button. Select “Window Frame” from LiteCam and click the Select button. Click the area where the movie is playing in Windows Media player to record.
You can record this movie in Custom Size mode, but in this scenario, Windows Frame mode is easier.
Q> Can I record VOD's from the web?
A> Yes, most VOD movies from the web use Windows Media player. Please configure the Video/Audio first if you haven't done so already. Play the movie using Windows Media Player.
If the movie starts to play, click the pause button. Select “Windows Frame” from LiteCam and click the Select button. To record, click the area where the movie is playing. Shown in picture below.
You can record this movie in Custom Size mode, but in this scenario, Windows Frame mode is easier.
Q> Can I record movies from other players, other than Windows Media Player? Windows frames mode doesn't seem to work with other players.
A> Yes, you can record. However, Windows considers the whole player as one window frame, it is better to go with Custom size mode.
You can also record QuickTime and Real Player, but it is not always compatible, it depends on the size of movies and the program settings.
Q> Can I record the movement of my mouse cursor?
A > No, liteCam does not support mouse cursor recording as it is designed to record video screen. If you would like to record desktop to create presentation or tutorial videos, try CamVerce.
Q> The movie is not synchronized with the sound. What can I do?
A> If you don't have enough system resources while you are recording, your movie might not be in sync with the sound. Try to close applications which you are not using while you are recording, and try recording again.
Q> I can not record via my WebCam microphone or my studio microphone a screenshot or skype communication
A> liteCam does not support recording sound from microphone since liteCam is designed for movie recording. However, if you are using liteCam on Windows 2000 or XP, you are able to record your voice by manually setting the audio devices. (You need to configure the device so your voice can play through speaker) This may not work on some sound cards.
liteCam uses CoreAudio API (for Windows Vista) to record loopback type in Windows Vista, so even if you configure the device, you will not be able to record your voice through microphone. If you are recording a video chat, you can only record the other person’s voice.
Q> I have lost the copy of liteCam and serial number
A> Not a problem. Click "Contact Us". Select "Lost Key/Product" and provide us with order number and email address in Comments section.
Q> I get the message "Incorrect serial number or not installed properly".
A> I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall and try it again. Please refer to Kbase LC301 for further help.
Q> Can I record my voice over while recording video?
A> Yes you can. If you are using Windows 2000 or XP, set your audio device to microphone. As you record the video, you can start speaking to the microphone.
Q> I can’t save using the ‘MP3’ format!
Q> I can’t record sound!
Q> How can I configure Audio Device to record Computer Sound?
Q> How can I configure Audio Device to record Microphone?
Q> How can I find out if my sound card is capable of recording my computer’s sound!? (Windows 2000/XP only)
Q> I can’t save using the ‘MP3’ format!
A> You will see the following dialog box after installing liteRecorder if you haven’t installed LAME encoder.

If you click ‘Yes’, liteRecorder will start, but you won’t be able to save the recording in MP3 format.
For the MP3 recording options page, please visit MP3 Page.
Q> I can’t record sound!
A> For this issue, there are 3 possible scenarios:
- Your audio devices may be incorrectly configured
- Your media player may simply be muted
- Your sound card doesn’t support recording sounds coming from the computer
Audio devices are incorrectly configured:
Most of the time, an incorrect audio device configuration will cause this issue. Please click the link below to make sure you have correctly configured your audio devices. It’s important that you remember to close all applications that use audio devices in order to set up the device correctly. If you are using Windows 2000/XP, check the moving waves in the Show Waves box.
[Computer sound]
[Microphone]
The media player you are using to play the recorded file is on mute:
Though this might seem silly, a surprising number of people will have media player (i.e. Windows Media Player, Winamp or Gom Player) or computer sound on mute! Just make a quick check, and in the event that you did, we won’t tell anyone if you don’t.
Your sound card doesn’t support recording computer sound:
This is very rare, but with some sound cards, you won’t be able to record sound from your computer. A small number of integrated sound cards on more inexpensive computers and a small number of expensive sound cards on higher-end computers (typically used for studio recording) are not able to record sounds coming from the computer (though some high-end sound cards are configured only for microphone recording.)
To resolve this issue, liteRecorder automatically detects whether your sound card is capable or not if you are using Windows Vista.
Please refer to Kbase LC 101 for further help
Q> How can I configure Audio Device to record Computer Sound?
A> Click here to see how you can configure Audio Device to record Computer Sound
Q> How can I configure Audio Device to record Microphone?
A> Click here to see how you can configure Audio Device to record Microphone
Q> How can I find out if my sound card is capable of recording my computer’s sound!? (Windows 2000/XP only)
A> As stated before, most sound cards are capable of recording sound from your computer. It is very rare, but with some sound cards, you unfortunately will not have the option to record sound. Again, there are a few integrated sound cards (on cheaper machines) and a few high-performance sound cards (used for studio recording) that are not made for recording sound from computers, and there are some cards that are configured explicitly for microphone recording.
liteRecorder automatically detects whether your sound card is capable or not if you are using Windows Vista, but you need to perform a manual check in Windows 2000 and XP.
Simply run the Audio Setup Wizard to detect the audio device for computer sound recording. If you were unable to detect the audio device using the Setup Wizard, you can manually check whether your sound card is capable or not by using Volume Control and Sound Recorder.
First, you may need to update the divers for your sound card. Windows sometimes installs the outdated or wrong driver automatically, so we recommend you to find out the make and model of your sound card and install the latest drivers from their website, as this can often resolve the recording issue. If you still can’t record after updating the drivers, please follow the steps below:
Close all applications using the sound card. Yes, that means if you are listening to music, you need to go without it for a few moments to get this stuff to work.
Here are the steps to follow:Double click the Volume Control icon.
![]()
From the Volume Control dialog box, select Properties from the Options menu.

From the Properties dialog box, select Recording from the “Adjust volume for” section. You should then see the all available devices in the box at the bottom. Please select all the devices and click OK.

If there are no devices available, you will need to get something to record the sound from your computer, such as a computer microphone or webcam with a mic. If you have something plugged in already, make sure to double check the connections to your computer.
You will see the Recording Control dialog box shown below. Your Recording Control may be different than this picture, depending on your sound card.

Keep this window open and run Sound Recorder. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. Now you should have both Recording Control and Sound Recorder open.

Play any music file a media player of your choice. While the music is playing, click the Record button from the Sound Recorder, to allow the sound recorder to record.

Go back to the Recording Control window, and select the available device one by one to see if you can see moving wave in the Sound Recorder Once you found the device that makes waves in Sound Recorder, click the Stop button on the Sound Recorder. Next, click the Play button in Sound Recorder to play the recorded sound. If you hear the recorded music, success! You have the correct device for recording computer sound. Remember to close all windows and then open liteRecorder. Select the Computer Sound Option from the Tools menu. Select the device from the Computer Sound Setup screen.

If you are still having trouble finding the right device, we recommend that you contact your sound card vendor.
Q> What are the differences between liteCam and CamVerce?
Q> What is Marker? How I can use this to convert my project to document formats?
Q> Do I have to have Microsoft Office to convert my project to DOC and PPT formats?
Q> What are pros and cons for different recording modes?

Q> Important information for Windows Vista users
Q> Anything I should know about ASF/WMV conversion?
Q> Are there any limitations for SWF file format?
Q> What are the differences between liteCam and CamVerce?
A> Both liteCam and CamVerce do record computer screen, however they are very different in functionality and usability.
liteCam is optimized to record video screen which requires higher frame rates (frames per second) than recording desktop activities. liteCam only saves it to AVI file format which cannot be edited using liteCam. You need 3rd party video editing software to edit the video you recorded.
CamVerce was developed to create tutorial, presentation and training videos. CamVerce has 4 applications: Launcher, Recorder, Studio, Player and Converter and these will allow you to record, edit, convert and play the recorded video.
Even though CamVerce has video recording feature, liteCam offers higher quality video recording.
Q> What is Marker? How I can use this to convert my project to document formats?
A> One distinctive feature CamVerce has is its document conversion feature (HTML, PowerPoint and Word formats). You can use this feature to create a product manual.
You need to understand how to use Marker in order to convert them to document formats. This marker is very similar to Bookmarks or Favorites from web browsers. CamVerce automatically saves time stamps whenever you click mouse buttons, input from your keyboard and slide captures. This will help you to navigate through specific frames and it is very useful when you are converting the video to document formats.
You can open the Marker by selecting Marker from the Insert menu. You will see all the mouse clicks and keyboard inputs are saved in the Marker window.
Now you need to add frames to Marker. Here’s how you can add frames to Marker:
1. Select frame from the slide window
2. Click the Insert menu and select “Add a document to Marker”. You can also right click on the selected frame and select “Add a document to Marker”.
3. If you have all the frames added to the Marker, select Save Project from the File menu.
You can open the Converter and add the project to Converter. Select “Documents” from the Document File Options window. If you don’t see the Document File Options window, double click on file name.
You can select other options such as Mouse event or Keyboard Event as well, but this will generate unnecessary documents.
Q> Do I have to have Microsoft Office to convert my project to DOC and PPT formats?
A> In order to convert projects into Word and PowerPoint formats, you need to have Microsoft Office installed on your computer. Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007 are supported in CamVerce. Word and PowerPoint files will be converted to DOC and PPT formats and will not be converted to DOCX or PPTX.
Q> What are pros and cons for different recording modes?
A> Screen Recording: This records computer screen and this file can be edited using CamVerce Studio.
Video Recording: If you don’t need to record entire computer screen but want to record small video screen, this Video Recording mode will record and save as an AVI format. Mouse cursor won’t be recorded as this is for video screen recording. This AVI file cannot be edited from CamVerce Studio.
Slide Recording: If you are recording screen with minimum activities, slide recording offers you great way to save the file size. This mode will take a screen shot of the first screen and record your voice and mouse cursor. It adds more screenshots to your project as you click the Capture Slide button. Since you’re taking screenshots instead of recording, the file size will be noticeably smaller.
Q> Why did CamVerce ask me to convert to editable format and what is editable format?
A> You will be prompted to convert the recorded file into editable format after the recording. The recorded file (EMM format) is optimized for speedy recording and it needs to be converted to editable file (same file format) which minimizes audio sync issues.
If you are not planning to edit a lot, you don’t need to convert if you prefer. Please note that there might be audio sync issue if you edit the file without converting it to editable format.
Q> Important information for Windows Vista users
A> Please make sure that your system meets the requirements:
Windows Vista 32 bit
2 GHz processor or faster
1 GB RAM or more
128 MB video memory or more with DirectX 9 and WDDM driver support
Sound cards with Full Duplexing
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or later / Microsoft DirectX 9.0 or later / Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 (recommended) or later.
Microsoft Office 2000 or later for DOC, PPT conversion
Real Player 7.0 or later to play RM file (Real Player is not required for conversion)
QuickTime Player 9.0 or later for MOV file conversion
Depending on videos you want to record, high-end system may be required.
At least 1GB of space in local hard drive is required. Recording may be stopped if you have less than 500 MB of space.
- You need to log in as an administrator for proper recording.
- You need to turn the protected mode off when you are recording Internet Explorer 7 (You may have to do this in Windows 2000/XP as well). If you have this enabled, mouse cursor movement may not be recorded properly. This is one of Microsoft’s policies to prevent hacking program controls mouse.
- If you don’t turn the protected mode off or not logged on as an administrator, your mouse pointer may stay one shape when you record.
- If you have more than 2 speakers, you need to change the speaker settings to Stereo to record.
- You are not able to change the audio settings.
Q> Anything I should know about ASF/WMV conversion?
A> There are two different types of CODECs for ASF/WMV conversion. One for less colors /high resolution with not much screen activities and for more color and less screen resolution with lot of screen activities. Those are very contradictory and there is no CODEC works for both cases.
If you are converting a screen recorded project, we recommend you to use Windows Media video 9 screen or Windows Media Screen V7). These Codecs are optimized for screen recording since this Codec converts with vivid text, however, it is not suitable for videos with many colors. It is also not recommended for Vista users who use the Aero effect. If you are using Vista without Aero effect, these codecs will work for you.
If you have recorded video, PowerPoint presentation or image applications (Adobe Photoshop for example), MPEG4 series is recommended. You may see more or less video Codecs on your computer depending on your graphic card or applications you’ve installed. Unless you have a Codec in your mind, “Windows Media MPEG-4 Video, Windows Media Video 9” is the best choice. If you are a Vista user using the Aero effect, one of these two codecs are the best choices. Please note that these codecs are made for videos, so small text and images may be smudged.
Windows Media Audio 9 and Windows Media Audio 10 are recommended. It is recommended to use the same audio settings you used while recording. If you have used 16 bit and 22 Khz while recording, use the same setting for converting. If you have recorded just narration, 16 Kbps, 22 KHz, mono will be a good settings, and if you have to increase the audio quality, just change the bandwidth to 48 kbps. If audio quality is not really important in your project, you don’t need to go with Stereo. This will make your file size much bigger than Mono sound will.
Here is the recommended Bandwidth settings (for WMV and ASF):
Screen recording: Windows Media Screen V7 recommended
640 x 480 or less (resolution): 100 – 200 Kbps
800 x 600 or less (resolution): 200 – 300 Kbps
1024 x 768 or less (resolution): 300– 500 Kbps
Video or picture recording: Windows Media Video 9 recommended
320 x 240 or less (resolution): 200 – 300 Kbps
640 x480 or less (resolution): 300 – 1000 Kbps
Those are just recommendations and it may still lag a little if you have recorded video. It is recommended to test after converting to WMV and ASF formats. Currently, WMV and ASF formats are the most popular streaming file formats on the Internet.
Q> Are there any limitations for SWF file format?
A> SWF file format has the following limitations:
- Maximum number of frames: 16000
- Maximum number of layers: 16000
- Maximum number of symbols: 16000
- Maximum number of movie clips: 16000
- Mouse right click can’t be used
-A Combination of two keys can’t be used for keyboard shortcut. Alt key can’t be used. Shortcut keys already taken by Internet Explorer can’t be used.
- Please refer to this page for more detail: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14437
