If you un tick the Show tips at Startup box, this dialog box will not show any more.
Second dialog box you will see (if you are running liteCam for the first time) asks you to run Audio Wizard. The Audio Wizard will guide you to set device to record sound from your computer. You can run this wizard from liteCam main screen as well.

You will see liteCam screen as shown below.

If you did not select the automatic hardware acceleration, we have to configure video setting.

We recommend you to select Automatic hardware acceleration option from Tools menu so that you do not have to set this manually each time you record.

liteCam Tutorial
If you did not select the Automatic hardware acceleration option, you will have to set it manually.
More importantly, when you're recording through a web browser or Windows Media Player, you must run the web browser or Windows Media Player after the video setting.

These are the general steps for setting up.
Run LiteCam > Setup video and audio >run movie player (web browser or any media player) >Record

If you run any media player before you set up the video option, the screen may not record or play properly.

In order to set up, Click the Tools menu > select Video Options

You will see the Video Options dialog box shown below.
You will notice that hardware acceleration is set to Full (unless you have changed it manually). Click the “Set Hardware Acceleration to None” button.

After recording, open this dialog box again and click the “Restore hardware Acceleration to Full” button.

Click the “OK” button to save and close these changes.

Now we have to set audio options.

In order to set up, Click the Tools menu > select Audio Options

You will see the Audio Setting Wizard box shown below.

Please read the “Before running Wizard” section before clicking the Next button.
-Close all programs that are using an audio or video device.
-Make sure your speakers are properly connected to your computer and that the volume is on.

Click Next button to continue.

You will see the Device setting screen as shown below.

Upon clicking Auto Detect button, liteCam will detect your sound card. You will hear a static sound for 5 -20 seconds.

You will see a screen pop up shown below. This will tell you liteCam has successfully detected audio device on your computer and will be automatically configured for recording.

You may see different device name depending on your sound card. Please click OK to continue.

Click OK to continue testing. You will hear music for few seconds, and then you will have this pop up:

If you click the OK button in this dialog box, you will hear the recorded sound of the previously played music. If the sound is too loud or too quiet, slide the Volume bar to adjust the volume to the desired level. After adjusting, click Record&Play button again to repeat the procedure.

If you are unable to hear the recorded sound or failed to detect the sound device, please download liteCam manual from download page for more information.

Recording

There are five steps in recording.

Select the Recording mode and area > Stat Recording > Save File > Choose CODEC > Stop Recording

Selecting Recording Mode and Area

LiteCam offers you 3 different recording modes; Custom Size, Window Frame and Full Screen.

Generally, we recommend using Custom Size recording when you are using any media player other than Windows Media Player. Windows recognizes most of other media players as a single frame.

If you are using Windows Media Player as your default media player, you should go with the Windows Frame mode; this will allow you to be able to record only the movie screen without other frames such as buttons and menus.

You can use Full Screen mode if you have a movie playing in full screen mode. However, your mouse cursor will not be recorded. We do not recommend you to use Full Screen mode unless you have a very high end system.

The smaller the screen you record, the better and smoother recording you will get.

Custom Size Recording

If you choose Custom Size recording, click the Select button.

You will see a hand shaped cursor with a “+” sign, as shown in the picture below.

You can draw a rectangle using the drag and drop skill. Whatever is inside the red rectangle will be recorded. And you will notice that you can see the coordinate of the recording area.

liteCam tutorialThe recording area will be displayed in pink with coordinates on it. - MSN.ca / Sympatico web site

When the width of the rectangle is an odd number, you will see this message saying “Some Codecs are not compatible if the width of the recording area is an odd number, please change the width of the recording area to an even number and record again.”

If you have this message, you can add or subtract 1 from the coordinates manually.

Window Frame Recording

If you're using Windows Media Player as your default media player or you wish to record a movie file from your web browser, Window Frame mode is highly recommended.
If you choose the Window Frame mode, click the Select button to choose the frame you wish to record. Move your mouse cursor and you will notice that the window frame is highlighted with a black and white border, as shown in the picture below.
liteCam tutorial
If the area you want to record is selected, left click on it. Your selected frame will be highlighted in pink with coordinates. If the wrong area is selected, you can click the Select button again from liteCam main screen to reselect the area.

Click the Record button to start recording.

Full Screen Recording

Full screen recording is even more straightforward. Select the Full Screen mode and click the Record button. Again, we do not recommend you to use the Full Screen mode unless you have a media-intensive system

AVI Recording Option

For all of the recording modes we have discussed, you will be prompted to save your file right after clicking the Record button. After saving your file, you will see this dialog box where you can set options for AVI files.
As you can see from the dialog box below, you can choose which compression program (Codec) you want to use. Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V3 Codec with default values is recommended for standard recording.
liteCam tutorial
If you have specific Codecs you would like to use, you can select from the drop down menu and configure it manually. When you are done, click the OK button to start recording.
Your recording will begin immediately after you click the OK button.

Stop/Pause recording

When the recording begins, you will see this icon in your bottom right hand side of the screen.
liteCam tutorial
You can pause or stop the recording by clicking one of these buttons.

You can play the recorded movie by either clicking the Play button from LiteCam or double click the file you have saved.

Frame rates

You can adjust frame rates from the main liteCam screen. You can enter any values between 1 and 30, but the default and recommended value is 10. You may record movies with 30 frames per second to have better quality recording if you have high end computer system. Please test-record at least 5 minutes to make sure if you would like to record with higher than 10 frames per second rate. If you want to initiate the frame rate to 10, you can simply enter 10 in the box or click Tools menu and select initiate frame rate.

Timer Recording

If you are recording a long movie and you don’t want to wait, you can use Timer Recording option. This Timer Recording option will let you set timer and automatically stops recording when the timer expires. Check “Timer Recording” box and you will see this Timer recording dialog box. You can enter the time (in minutes) and click OK. Your system will also be turned off after recording if “Shut down after recording” option is selected. Available timer value is between 1 (minute) and up to 240 (4 hours). Timer recording will be cancelled if you enter 0.

Shut down after recording option

If this option is selected, your computer will be shut down after recording. However, it might not work depending on your OS and other running application.
